Sunshiny Hello

I had fun making a card for Rita Wright’s fun sketch.  Rita is our hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches, and working with a sketch design by Rita’s is pure pleasure.  I wanted to try misting water on this inked Polka Dot Background stamp from My Favorite Things.  I cropped it with MFT’s Inside Out Stitched Rectangle dies, and then paired with my free dynamic, Sunny Skies, that came in the same order, it makes for a fast, super-cheerful card.  FMS226-Dots-and-Hello-You-T

I used 6 colors, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Garden Green, Marina Mist and Elegant Eggplant.  I worked from the Daffodil Delight going out in both directions; I applied the colors directly from the ink pads and this helped eliminate contaminating lighter colors with darker ones.  The inks overlapped slightly.  After getting the stamp inked up well, I misted it with water and stamped it on Ranger Watercolor Paper (smoother side).  FMS226-Hello-You-ThinlitsI used two layers from the “hello” from the Hello You Thinlits, the top in Gold Foil and the bottom in Daffodil Delight.  I used 3 layers of Daffodil Delight for the sun.  I thought my card would be done, but I felt like it was missing something.  I added Wink of Stella to the sun and a few random dots.  It still needed something, so I freehanded the face on the sun with the Project Life Marker and added a little White Gel Pen to the eyes and a little blushing bride for some rosy cheeks.  And THEN it was finished!

FMS226 RitaBI hope you enjoyed my fairly simple card and Rita’s sketch this week and I hope you’ll check out what my fellow design team members have created to inspire you, and that you’ll play along with us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

Happy stamping!

This is just the cutest card, Cindy! I was reading your description waiting to see what cute stamp you used for the sun’s face and lo and behold, you free-handed it! You’re too clever, my friend!

Oh my gosh Cindy, what a HAPPY card! I love it. I really love that little sun and your face you made is darling! I must have him! Question though. You say you applied ink directly from the ink pad to the stamp? How did you not get any ink contamination? I see that some of the polka dots have a smidge of another color, and that looks great. But I’m envisioning the entire ink pad being applied, and obviously, that’s not right. Did you use sponge daubers to apply the other colors on the edge of each dot? Anyway, however it’s done, it sure is perfect! Thanks for the inspiration. I remember some old SU paper that’s now retired. It had the white embossed designs on it, and you could apply ink then rub the excess off. I may try that instead, since I don’t have this Polka Dot stamp. I really want the Mr. Sun though! He’s so cute! Thanks for a bright way to start my day! Hugs ! XO
