Another amazing sketch with am amazing ability to inspire! This week Linda Callahan is our challenge host and sketch designer at Freshly Made Sketches and her sketch is Wow!-inspiring. Linda’s classically clean style is reflected in the sketch and I think you’ll find it very easy to work with. Thanks, Linda! We love you!
Other than some rounded corners, I stayed very true to Linda’s sketch. I knew I wanted to use black and gold, but wasn’t sure what to pair with it. After trying several neutrals, I found that Soft Suede kept it very elegant without competing with or being drowned out by the black and gold. Since I’m waiting for my first order from the 2015-2016 catalog to arrive (any day now!) and I don’t have any current DSPs in my stash, I’m relying on “homemade” prints. The border stamp included in Summer Silhouettes worked perfectly for a golden mosaic look and it inspired me to include the use of the Mosaic Embossing Folder for the background.
Now here’s where the real fun came in. I’ve never worked with glitter much, other than glitter glue, I really wanted to use black glitter on this card. With glitter, you can’t have one massive glob, at least I don’t think you should, so I used the fine-lined flower (two stamps) in the stamp set. At first I used Heat & Stick Powder, but found that the glitter was coming off after a short time leaving lots of bare areas. To correct it, I used a fine-tip glue pen and more glitter to touch it up. I still haven’t mastered the Heat & Stick for using glitter. Anyone else have this problem? Better yet, anyone else have any helpful tips???
I hope you are inspired by today’s card and are ready to go get all glittery. Black glitter is a new twist for me as far as having it all stuck to my face goes! I’ll keep this in mind at Halloween time. 🙂 Unfortunately, while doing this post, I think I just discovered that SU’s Black Glitter has been retired. (Pout)
Here’s Linda’s sketch for Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #194:
