Sheltering Tree with Dazzling Details

It’s time for another Freshly Made Sketches challenge, and our host this week is Jen Brum.  Jen is so talented and I always love her sketches.  Both her creativity and her sweet personality inspire me, not to mention that she’s a fabulous mom.  Have you noticed that no one ever leaves the Freshly Made Sketches design team?  Jen is one the the 10 reasons that I stay!

Jen’s sketch inspired me to use Sheltering Tree for my main image.  I’m a little late on my fall cards this year, and I hear that many areas are already experiencing quite cold weather.  We are finally getting a “cold front” here, according to the local weatherman.  That means it’s 85 and a little less humid.  Oh well, after 16 years here in Southwest Florida, I’ve learned to pretend it’s fall when it drops below 90.  Winter is when it drops below 80.

Raking, raking, raking and lots of raking.  Yep, that’s what fall was like in Michigan.  We had a home built in the 1880’s (loved it!) and it had HUGE trees with MILLIONS of leaves.  I remember when we had to start using those paper leaf bags.  We’d have at least 80 bags lined up on the curb every week for several weeks.  We finally bought a big riding mover that mulched and contained the leaves.  That cut down on the bags tremendously!

Anyway, this card wouldn’t have had much meaning to me without the rake and pile of leaves.

I did my best trying to photograph the tree leaves so you can see the little daubs of Dazzling Details Glitter Glue.  It’s really pretty in person and adds some dimension.

Okay, now if’s time for true confessions.  I’m thinking of changing the name of my blog to ‘The Ditsy Cardmaker’.  Here’s this week’s drama in the craft room:

Right-Side-Up          Upside-Down

Should the tree be right side up or the sentiment right side up?  As you can see, this was intended to be a one layer card!  Oops!  Of course, the sentiment was the last thing I stamped.  Thank heavens for the banner die.   The really sad part was that the sentiment was perfectly centered and straight!  🙂

I really love this tree. It looks like the ones in my yard (and yep, need to rake tomorrow). But I cannot even tell you how much I love the sentiment pictures. How many banners I have because of stuff like that. You are just the “keeping it real” stamper!

Absolutely gorgeous card & I think the sentiment treatment is part of what makes this a great card! Hurrah for goofs that end up better than planned!

  3. Kim S

Gorgeous! I love the hint of sparkle with the gorgeous fall colors – it adds the look of crisp, cool air that is so wonderful in fall.

Oh, Cindy! Thanks for confessing, because it sure makes me feel better myself! 😉 You did a fantabulous job inking this one up! Gorgeous! 🙂

  5. Debbie

I really like the gorgeous banner die that you did the best and its fall colors too! Great card!

Brava! You are my stamping hero! It takes a strong woman to show us her mistakes! But in true stamping fashion you took a gaffe and turned it into a winner!

I’m glad that you don’t have to rake up all those leaves anymore and that winter means 80-degrees. Winter here is all about shovels. And how many feet did you get. And how early did you get up to shovel snow so that you could get to work on time. Maybe I should move to Florida!

Beautiful card Cindy! I love that fall theme! That tree is just gorgeous! I also love the banner even if it is covering up a little accident! We’ve all been there, done that! I’m glad fall is settling in Florida! I’ll take some of that weather from you any day!!!

Great story about raking the leaves, Cindy! And an equally great card – the sentiment banner looks like it’s meant to be there and if you hadn’t “confessed” no one would be the wiser.
