It’s a very special opportunity to be Mary Fish’s “Pals Guest Stamper”. It’s an honor to have my upline use one of my designs on her blog, Stampin’ Pretty. Out of the utmost admiration for Mary, I really wanted to create something special for the occasion.
I’ve never made a ‘real’ gingerbread house, but I’ve always wanted to. I love playing with paper, so the next best thing was to create a paper gingerbread house. Okay, the truth is, I love to bake, but I love to play with paper even more. Therefore, this was better than making a culinary gingerbread house. Instead of having flour all over me, I had glitter everywhere, which is a lot more attractive. 🙂
This is so much fun to make. CLICK HERE for a printable template for the side walls, if you’re interested in making your own. The walls and roof were made with Soft Suede cardstock; the roof measures 5-1/2″ x 6-1/2″. The base was made with Whisper White cardstock and it measures 8″ x 8-1/2″.
For the corner “candy canes”, I cut 4 pieces of Holly Berry Bouquet Specialty DSP 4-1/4″ x 1-1/2″ on the diagonal. I distressed them with a bone folder so the would roll, and I scored them lengthwise 1/4″ from each edge, for a tab to attach to the walls using Sticky Tape. The candy canes around the doors were cut with the Stocking Accents Die with Real Red and Whisper White cardstock, and I added a little Dazzling Details Iridescent Glitter Glue where the colors meet. The ‘doors’ were made with Whisper White cardstock and scored diagonally and down the center with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. The ‘doorknobs’ are red Circle Fire Rhinestone Brads. The wreath was made with Garden Green cardstock, and cut with the 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle Punch and the 1-1/4″ Circle Punch. The ‘berries’ on the wreath are Basic Pearls that were colored with a red permanent marker, and the bow is made with Real Red 1/8″ Tafetta Ribbon.
On the sides and back, I created windows with Bashful Blue and Whisper White cardstock. I added Dazzling Details to the corners of the windows for ‘frost’. The trees were cut out of Garden Green cardstock, using the Stocking Accents Die, and then I added ‘ornaments’ made of Basic Pearls and Basic Rhinestones that were colored with red and green permanent markers and a gold metallic marker.
The roof ‘gum drops’ were made with Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Garden Green, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White and Elegant Eggplant circles cut with the 3/4″ Circle Punch and then coated with Allpurpose Glue and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. The trim around the roof edge was made with the Lace Ribbon Border Punch and Whisper White cardstock.
The roof and base are attached with 1/2″ x 1″ tabs. For final touches, I added Dazzling Details dots on the walls and Mica Flakes on the base.
What’s the best thing about this Gingerbread House? It’s calorie-free! I hope you enjoyed this project, and that you’ll use the template to make the base house, and decorate it with your own style!
My favorite item is the ‘candy canes’ on the corners. I’d love to hear what you like best about it; please leave a comment!
