Mr Snowman

Welcome to the November Pals Hop!  This month, we’re featuring Winter, Christmas, and Hanukkah inspired cards and projects!  Enjoy the hop and the amazing creations that the Pals have come up with.

You’ve likely hopped over from Sandie Conner at Pretty Provisions; I’m stop number 16 on the Pals Hop and I’m glad you hopped in!  I’ll help you “hop along” from blog to blog where you’ll many inspirational paper projects from the Stampin’ Pretty Pals!  Should you hop off course, simply click on any of the links in the Pals Hop Line-up below and you’ll be back on track!
My project has combined two different card types:  a step card and a telescoping card.  The telescoping card is the perfect way to get a tall snowman to fit in a normal envelope.  Here he is opened up, in all his snowy glory:

I slightly altered the “standard” cuts for the step card so that the entire center column would be hidden when the snowman was opened.

Here’s Mr. Snowman all folded up and ready to be put in an envelope:

I think he still makes a nice presentation even when he’s folded up.

Here’s a closeup of some of the details:

  • The body of the snowmade was made with the Circle Scissor Plus and Glass Mat, and then covered with VersaMark and heat embossed with Iridescent Ice Emboss Powder
  • The Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding was stamped with the Good Grid and Whisper White Craft Ink, and then the ends were frayed
  • The hat was made by cropping Basic Black cardstock with the Word Window and 1-1/4″ Square Punch.  The holly accent is a partial image from one of the stamps in the Bells & Boughs stamp set, colored with Always Artichoke, Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Markers.  The berries also had a dab of Crystal Effects added to them.
  • The stick arms are a stamp from Out on a Limb stamp set.  The image was stamped with VersaMark onto Chocolate Chip cardstock and then attached with brown brads from Neutrals Brads
  • The background snow puffs were made with the 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch, trimmed to fit, and then covered with Mica Flakes
  • The eyes and mouth were made with black brads from Neutrals Brads
  • The buttons are Black Glimmer Brads
  • The snow in the ‘sky’ was made with a White Gel Pen, All Purpose Adhesive and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter on Bashful Blue cardstock
  • The carrot nose was free-hand with Pumpkin Pie and Sahara Sand Stampin’ Write Markers
  • The sentiment is from Snow Much Fun, stamped with Basic Black Ink, and cropped with the Modern Label Punch, and then outlined with a Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker

Too cute… saw it at crafty picks and just had to stop by to tell you I love your card! Examining it more closely, I have to say the part I love the most is how you very effectively incorporated the brads for the telescoping card into your snowman… had to look twice to see how those circles were connected!! Great job!

  3. Rhonda Miller

    How cute. TFS.

  4. Becky Jo

I love this snowman card! TFS I’d like to have the measurements if you are willing to share them. Hugs!!

  5. Jayne Stenstrom

This snowman is over-the-top ADORABLE!!! I’ve done both types of cards but never considered combining them. Very clever idea! (And if you have measurements for the card that you’re willing to share, I’d love to have them!)

  6. Sandra Conner

Love it, so cute and sparkly, wonderful card.

This is so beautiful. It is now on my list of things to make. I love how you made the scarf. I certaily would not have thought to make a plaid scarf out of the ribbon using craft ink. So, so darling.

This card is Amazing!! Like everyone else, I really do want to know how you got the telescoping effect. Please send directions!! This is the very best card on the hop and that’s saying something with this group!!!

  17. Charlene

Great card! I love the whole execution of the card – so very clever – but like many others in your comments am dying to find out the dimensions for the step card and telescope card effect. I have never seen this effect before and your snowman is just unbelievable!

  18. Debbie Grueser

This card is adorable! My grand kids would love it. You did such a great job with all of the details.

Could you share how you made the ‘telescoping’ part of the card?

  19. karen hamilton

OH CINDY! You’ve done it again! What fun this card is and too cute ! Well, I’m going to humbly ask you for the telescoping step-card instructions as well. Or if you’ll just point in the right direction to a website that has all that stuff. You do so much already for me and everyone when you post I feel a little guilty asking for more! Just curious; how long did it take to make. I’m trying to gauge if I’m getting any better at this. Thanks again for a wonderful card creation.

  20. Chris

Would you please post the instructions for this…it is sooooo cute, my grandkids would love it! Thanks.

  21. Rae In Reno
