Loads of Holiday Cheer

First, I want to take a moment to say thank you SO much for all your comments and support on yesterday’s Blog Hop post.  That little guy was so much fun to make, and I’m happy that so many of you love him as much as I do.  I received a lot of requests for info on how the card was made, and I’ll do everything in my power to have a tutorial up by Sunday.  I’m having rotator cuff surgery on Monday, and I’ll be limited for a while on my mobility, so I’ll be getting lots of projects ready to post during my recovery time so you don’t come to a stale page.  That being said, I will try really hard to get the video on Mr. Snowman done, too!

Now, for the good stuff!  It’s time for another fabulous challenge at Freshly Made Sketches!  This week’s sketch was created by Rita, and I think you’re going to love it.  It’s easy-peasy and wide-open for creative interpretation.   Just let the ideas flow and see what comes out, and then make sure to post your creation on the challenge blog so I can see it!   If you need a little kick-start, go take a look at the fabulous projects that the Design Team has created for you.  I promise you that there’s some inspiration that you’ll connect to.  Here’s Rita’s wonderful sketch:

I took the liberty to stretch my panels pretty much to the edges, and I’m basically missing a layer, per the sketch.  I needed bigger panels to get the images to fit the way that I wanted them to, and I think it’s pretty close to the sketch to pass (please let it pass, Rita!).

I’m still a huge fan of the Loads of Love stamp set, especially the ‘bringing home the tree’ theme created here.  Despite the many stamped images, this is a fairly quick and easy card to make.

  • The trees were ‘stamped off’ using Always Artichoke ink, meaning that the image was stamped 2 or 3 times before re-inking to give the image some depth.
  • The truck was colored with a Blender Pen and Not Quite Navy, Basic Black and Real Red, and then coated with Crystal Effects.  I wasn’t able to get a good photo of the shine on the ‘paint’ (it might have had something to do with the fact that you have to be a patient person, and heavy coats of Crystal Effects takes a good hour to dry, and if you try to work with it before it’s completely set, it won’t be as shiny.  Now I’m not saying that happened or anything…).  For some added pizzazz, I used Silver Fine Galaxy Glitter on the bumpers, hubcaps and door handles.
  • I sponged Bashful Blue on the ‘sky’ of each panel, and added Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the bottom of each panel.
  • I stamped a second copy of the sentiment on Whisper White using Real Red ink, and cut out “loads holiday cheer” to pop it with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This card would be a great choice for making several for mailing.  It’s basically flat and has minimal embellishments, yet it has lots of appeal.

I hope you’ve been inspired by today’s card!  Thanks for stopping by, and don’t forget to visit Freshly Made Sketches for more Freshly Made ideas!

Cindy, this card brought a HUGE smile to my face. I absolutely love the scene that you created. Great coloring, too! Your stamping off of the trees has created a fabulous layer of texture and the little bit of bling is perfect. Gorgeously composed, my friend and a fabulous card

    Cindy,
I love the Loads of Love stamp set also along with Lovely as a Tree. They were among my first stamps sets, Branch Out was another. I’m lovin’ this sketch and just might have to post something! I hope your surgery goes well and recovery is a success. Take care of YOU and we’ll all be here when you’re better.
    Prayers and Hugs, Karen

I love it, Cindy. My poor Loads of Love is so neglected, but you’ve motivated me to pull it out for a Christmas card. I think you made an adorable card with it here! I love the way you used the sketch too! The Dazzling Diamonds on each panel is PERFECT!
