Garden in Bloom

It’s time for another sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches, and our host this week is the lovely and talented Jen Brum.  I love Jen’s style of card making and I love her sketch this week; it’s a great design to get you started on your way to making a fabulous card.

I chose to work with the Garden in Bloom stamp set and Pretty Petals DSP Stack for this week’s card.  It’s a perfect example of why I love Stampin’ Up! and why I think they make coordination for a beautiful project so easy.  I used ink colors that are in the DSP:  Calypso Coral, Old Olive and Very Vanilla.

I was able to watch some of the General Sessions from this year’s SU convention that took place last week, and I saw how to easily add glittery “splatters”.  Simply put a dab (maybe nickel-size) of liquid glue on a plastic lid, use an Aqua Painter and add a little water to thin the glue, and then tap the Aqua Painter on your other hand, making splatters of glue on your card stock.  Add glitter and you’re all set!  Too easy!  I’ve always just done dabs of glue with a glue pen, but this method looks so much better and more like splatters.  I also added splatters of Old Olive.

I inked the “Friends” portion of the sentiment stamp with VersaMark and heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder, and added a heart sequin.  The other half of the stamp was inked with Soft Suede.  The finally touch was adding a little bow of Gold Baker’s Twine.

I hope you are inspired by today’s card and by Jen’s fabulous sketch.

Cindy, this is just beautiful! Love it more than peanut butter! 🙂 I was at convention and saw the demon on the splatters, but I also forgot until now. I need to write this stuff down…. glad I’m retiring at the end of the month.Maybe then I’ll remember more of the fun stuff, and less of the work stuff! Hugs!
