Ahhhhh… we finally have some fall-like weather here in SW Florida. Windows and doors are wide open and the breeze is coming through, and I can really appreciate my hot cup of coffee on the lanai in the morning. I guess I’ve finally become “conditioned” for the hot Florida weather because I was a little cold on Monday night. I had to get out my long fleece bathrobe and slippers and it was only low 60’s. That’s a real rarity here, but much loved!
My card was made over the weekend, and it was hot and humid then, so I had to count on a scene with snow to give me a mental sense of cooler weather.
My card was inspired by the amazing Jennifer Timko’s ‘freshly made” and wonderfully versatile sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Her snowflake on the sketch really inspired me to made a winter scene of some kind, so I chose the winter scene from the “Happy Scenes” stamp set.
I used the little corner stamp with snowflakes to create a soft border around the card, and a couple larger snowflakes with rhinestones colored little blue scattered around the scene. Using a little Soft Sky and a sponge, I colored the sky a soft blue before stamping the image. I inked the line on the stamp with a Smoky Slate marker and stamped it on my card stock so I would know where the sky should be, and after daubing the blue, I re-inked the stamp using Mossy Meadow and Soft Suede markers, with a little Smoky Slate for the shadow at the base of the tree. And then, I, Cindy “glitter face” Hall, added lots of Dazzling Diamonds for the sparkly snow. 🙂
I played around with buttons, candy dots, brads and anything I could try to “anchor” the sentiment flag, but couldn’t find anything that didn’t over-power the sentiment and image, so I created simple faux stitching with a white gel pen.
This is my favorite kind of Christmas card… quick, easy and mail-able!
Thanks. Jennifer, for the wonderful inspiration with this sketch! I hope everyone will find inspiration in the sketch and the “Clean Team’s” creations at Freshly Made Sketches and play along with us this weekend!
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Stamping!
