Another Thank You with Butterfly Basics

Hello fellow stampers!  I’m not even going to say how many days are left until Christmas; you do the math.  It’s too scary for me.  And, if you have all of your decorating done, cards in the mail, presents wrapped and under the tree and your holiday meal planned and the table set, I don’t want to know about it!  I have bits and pieces of each of those things (except for setting the table), but I always want to do a little more, so I always feel behind.  Otherwise known as ADHD!  My daughter is in town, so we’re having some “girl days” with my Mom.  We are so blessed to all be able to be together.  That’s my true joy for the holidays!

Today’s inspirational sketch for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge is being brought to you by our very special Rita Wright.  If you want proof of how talented and fantastic she is, just click on her name to see for yourself.  She is an amazingly talented and creative papercrafter, and she’s a great mom to a super-adorable little girl. That says a lot!

I wanted to make a special card for my husband’s boss (the owner), who runs a wonderful company that really takes care of their employees.  Coincidentally, his boss is a woman.  🙂  Does that surprise you?  She’s kind, generous and does everything she can to recognize the good things that her employees do, and she runs a tight ship, too!

I turned to one of my favorite stamp sets, Butterfly Basics, for the main “ingredient” of this card.  The background image was stamped directly onto the card base.  I masked a rectangular shape, stamped the ferns and then sponged in the blue.  After I started putting other components on the card, I decided that the background image was being washed out and lost behind the brighter, bolder elements, so I created a “frame” with a Tip-Top Taupe marker, just making squiggly lines around it.  The “Thank You” is from the “Another Thank You” photopolymer set and was gold embossed on vellum.  There are a few sprinkles (created simply with one of the stamps from “Gorgeous Grunge”) behind the vellum.

I wanted to show you a close up so you could see the little hints of sparkle on the butterflies and ferns that was added with Wink of Stella (non-SU).  I love this simple way to add some super-fine glitter and shine, and it’s so easy to just brush it on the areas that you want it on.

Rita’s sketch was so much fun and I had so many ideas of what I could make with it that I already have a few more cards started with it!  I hope you are inspired by it, too, and for those of you that are over-achievers and have EVERYTHING ready for Christmas, we expect to see your card in the gallery this week, since you have so much extra time on your hands.  🙂  For those of you that don’t have everything ready, then you are like me and need an escape, so you should go stamp, too, and join us!  Come visit us at Freshly Made Sketches to see what the Clean Team has created with Rita’s sketch, too.

Okay, I really do want to know… which of you have everything already done and which of you don’t????  Leave me a comment below.  I want to know if I’m the only person in the stamping world that doesn’t have her Christmas cards in the mail.

Happy stamping and decorating and preparing!

First, I’d like to say that I am also behind on my Christmas to-do list. The gifts have been bought and wrapped, but I’ve only sent out a couple of cards. Can you believe it? And me, a papercrafter! Hopefully I’ll get caught up with those this week (she said with her fingers crossed). And I’m not surprised at all to hear that your husband’s boss is a woman! She’s going to love this card. The colors are fabulous and I’m in awe that you did the squiggly border free hand. Before I read that I was trying to figure out what stamp that was! I love how you layered the images and the butterflies look right at home in your garden scene!

Oh, this is so gorgeous, Cindy! The colors you’ve chosen work beautifully together and the butterflies are gorgeous. Enjoy your time with your daughter and don’t worry about the jobs that need doing. It’ll all fall into place, somehow 🙂

You hit this one out of the ballpark with that clever framed background! I also thought it was embossed. Your dh’s boss surely will love this beautiful creation! Merry Christmas!

Oh my, Cindy. This is stunning! What a gorgeous creation. I would not have thought you only used a marker to make that beautiful frame; I thought it was embossed. The layout is fantastic and I absolutely MUST case this! As always, it takes my breath away (and at my age, that’s a bit dangerous). Merry Christmas to you and your family sweet friend. Enjoy your time with Mom and daughter. Don’t stress about the Christmas plans; everything works out all ok. Love you!

What a pretty and fresh card, Cindy! I love your hand-drawn frame and happy colors. I am SO not ready for Christmas to be just two weeks away. But don’t worry about it — what needs to get done will get done. Just enjoy your time with your daughter and mom.

I believe YOU are extremely talented as well as I’ve been following you for a couple of years now! I LOVE your card! It’s beautiful, fun, and even elegant! 🙂

I haven’t even began to make my Christmas cards! I’ve decorated a bit but no tree up as of yet. With a new cat, I’m hesitant since all my ornaments are antique! I haven’t finished my shopping nor wrapped one gift. Most of my gifts are being shipped to Texas so I plan on getting things “wrapped” up by Friday and in the mail! Then I need to blaze a trail making Christmas cards! My daughter is always telling me I’m either ADD or ADHD. I tend to have too many things going at once and/or lose my focus. LOL!

Enjoy your ‘girl’ time with your daughter and mother! Merry Christmas to you and your family Cindy!
